Allen Richmond holds degrees in Music Composition and Conducting from Ohio University School of Music and the Kansas City Conservatory of Music, University of Missouri. His orchestral conducting style was enhanced through disciplined training with Markand Thakar and Robert Newell; choral techniques honed under the tutelage of Peter Jarjisian and Eph Ehly; and compositional mentoring with Robert Newell and Mark Phillips.

As an active conductor, musician and clinician, Maestro Richmond tours worldwide, sharing his knowledge and background through performance, workshops, clinics and chamber ensemble/orchestra mentoring. He has performed a wide variety of music with a number of musical organizations and institutions during his twenty-five year career, collaborating with such august ensembles as The Harmony Society Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Canta-Sonare, Cincinnati Civic Orchestra, the NKU Philharmonic Orchestra, the American Mandolin & Guitar Orchestra, the CMSA En Masse Orchestra, and the Ohio Symphony Orchestra, which premiered Mr. Richmond's Symphony No. 1 in 1990, under the composer's baton.


Mr. Richmond is currently Music Director and Conductor of the Southern Ohio Symphony Orchestra and First Capitol Chorus, and recently served as Music Director and Conductor of the Dayton Mandolin Orchestra, having founded that orchestra in 2004. In addition to his conducting roles, he performs as violist with the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, Chillicothe Summer Symphony Orchestra, and various instrumental ensembles, and teaches private studio lessons in conducting and orchestration. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Classical Mandolin Society of America as Orchestra Liaison, Education Committee member and Convention Committee member; and is a member of the Conductors Guild, Chamber Music America, Fretted Instrument Guild of America, Columbus (OH) Guitar Society, and the Mandolin Society of Central Indiana.

In addition to over 125 arrangements for mandolin orchestra and chamber ensembles since 2005, his recent orchestral compositions include Symphony No. 3 for Piano and Orchestra; Vision of the Seas Overture; Pregúntame, Mazatlán from Mazatlán Suite; and Triptych for String Quartet, premiered in 2007 by the Toubee Quartet of Cincinnati Ohio. Mr. Richmond's compositions and musical works are published by Scioto Publishing Ltd., Dayton Ohio.
