Qigong

Qigong (pronounced chee gung) is the ancient Chinese practice of qi development. Qi is the life-force which causes all material things to exist and which sustains them. Over the centuries many hundreds of forms of qigong have been developed. I study a form of qigong known as Zhineng or Chi Lel qigong. This is one of the most widely practiced form of qigong today. Zhineng qigong has about 10, 000, 000 practitioners with the number growing every day. I have been studying this technique since December 1994. In June 1996 I studied in China . There I met Dr. Pang, a western and traditional Chinese medical doctor who is the founder of Zhineng qigong.

Taiji

More properly called taijiquan (supreme ultimate fist) Taiji is a Chinese martial art. The taiji form is often practiced by itself as a form of moving meditation or qigong. I am a student of traditional Yang style Taiji. I began my Taiji studies learning the standard 24 posture short form. After 1-1/2 years I found a new teacher and began studying the traditional long form. Since I don't practice enough I'm not very good. In spite of this I hope I will become good enough to teach at some point in the future.

Genealogy

I have been working on our genealogy off and on for about 20 years. This effort goes in spurts when I find a new lead and sometimes goes nowhere for years as genealogy is very time consuming and I don't always have the time to pursue it. However, I have traced both sides of my family back to their arrival in America. This ranges from about 1830 to 1860. My ancestors are exclusively from the British Isles and Germany.  Including my children and a grandniece and nephew we are working on the 7th generation.
