Murl Edwin Bales
Murl Edwin Bales 93, of Penrose, CO died March 21, 1994, in Canon City, CO.
He was born Feb. 13, 1901, in Stockton, Kan., to Eddie Elie and Mary Lemma Skidmore Bales.
Mr. Bales spent 48 years as a telegrapher and agent for the railroad.
Throughout his years in the railroad business, he worked for many different railroads, but most of his 48 years were spent with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed his work with the railroad, and his time there moved him and his family to several different communities throughout the area, including Serbian Lake and Bowler, CO.
He had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as all of his family. It was one of his greatest joys to watch his family grow.
Mr. Bales enjoyed camping and fishing trips and sitting around the campfire with his family and talking.
On April 1, 1929 he was married in Pratt, Kan., to Marie Zorb, who survives. Also surviving are four children; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Mr. Bales was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, at 2:30 P.M. at the Eads Cemetery, Elder Michael Kissner officiated the services. Miss Doris Lessenden sang "Life's Railway to Heaven" as a special tribute to a longtime railroad man.
Visitation and funeral services were under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Eads.
