Copy of the award certificate for the Medal of Honor awarded posthumously to Dayton, Ohio native Specialist 4th Class Joseph G. LaPointe, Jr, a combat medic in Vietnam. In addition to the Medal of Honor, Specialist LaPointe's awards and decorations include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. The upper section in red stands for blood spilled by the people in their alleged fight for peace, represented by blue in the lower half of the flag. The yellow star represents the Mongoloid race, with each point representing a separate class - (from the top point clockwise) students, farmers, industrialists, merchants and soldiers. |
