Another photograph of a GI posing in front of a Japanese Mitsubishi G4M "Betty" bomber. It was this type aircraft that was carrying Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (commander of the Imperial Japanese Fleet and key planner of the attack on Pearl Harbor) when it was ambushed and shot down by Army Air Force P-38 "Lightnings" on April 18th, 1943, killing the admiral.

Japanese 5 centavo occupation currency, taken as a souvenir by a GI who wrote across the top "Taken from a dead Jap on October 24th, 1944".

Japanese "China Incident Medal"; This medal commemorates the renewed Japanese intervention in China from 1937 to 1945. Imperial Edict No. 496 dated 27 July 1939 established this award for all personnel who served in China.

Marine Corps insignia worn by Staff Sergeant Charles V. Wise of Dayton, Ohio. Mr. Wise served in the 2nd Marine Division from 1942-1946, and took part in the campaigns on Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa, and in the occupation of Japan. Sadly, he passed away on 19 May, 2003; the Wise family gave me the honor of presenting his burial flag to Mrs. Wise. Shown is Sgt. Wise's brass USMC dogtag; marksmanship award bar of the pattern normally worn between 1912-1924; the ribbon for the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor hat insignia (unlike earlier EGA pieces, this one is made of plastic and was introduced in 1943), and his Private rank stripes.(Donated by Susan Wise-Cunningham).
