Japanese Army Noncommisioned Officers sword. These swords were normally machine made, unlike the swords carried by officers - many of which were very old, hand made blades handed down through their families. The Japanese habitually carried their swords into battle - making them another favored war trophy. After the surrender, thousands of swords were surrendered; American soldiers were allowed to choose one for a personal war trophy; the rest were melted down for their steel. |
