Heirloom
Projects
Megan was looking
forward to being baptised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. I made this special dress for this very memorable event
in her life.
The
collar plate is "Petals and Points" from Sew Beautiful magazine
Jan/Feb '95. The French insertion and edging was bought while visiting
Italy during Mark's TDY. Occassionally, a deployment does have its perks!
The
bodice smocking is"Fleur" from The Best of Australian Smocking and Embroidery.
YLI silk floss from Treasured Heirlooms was used. I really enjoyed smocking
with the silk. I was working towards a soft look, with just a hint of color
so I used a very soft blue and two dusty rose colors, and the soft green.
The dress pattern is from Silk Ribbon Treasures by Martha Pullen.
The silk dupioni was bought here in Germany. I used wing needle pin stitching
to attach the lace. There is a one inch growth tuck above the six inch
hem.
Sarah is the
sweetest little baby! I knew the little dress, "Sugar Mouse" from issue
34 of Australian Smocking and Embroidery would be perfect for her
first picture. Unfortunately, Daddy again was TDY the last few months so
I fell a bit behind (what an understatement)! Now to get the pictures taken!
I adapted Cheri William's
romper pattern to make the bishop. I also omitted the last row and a half
to avoid the no shoulder look. I used DMC floss and an odd cream bit of
silk ribbon. I used clear glass beads I had left over from another project.
The pink silk dupioni was
bought here in Germany and the antique lace was bought at the Homburg Floh
Markt last spring for a steal! I used wing needle pin stitching to again
attach the lace. There is a one inch growth tuck above the 4 inch hem.
