Serenity Ministry

Up

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Romans 12:2

 MISSION STATEMENT

Serenity Ministries is a Christian based program that provides support and assistance to meet the needs of the people in this church and the community and creates an atmosphere where people can seek help and be confident they will find it.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Boundaries - Taking Control Of Your Life

Classes that focus on our relationships and identifies those things for which we are responsible.  Clear Boundaries are essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

Boundaries in Marriage

This class deals with the principles for building and nurturing a relationship while developing the ability to resolve conflicts.  It deals with being an individual while being a part of a relationship.

Boundaries with Kids

A class to build a relationship with our children and provide ways that will allow them the freedom to develop into the person God meant them to be.

Steps & Footprints

A class to identify the relationship between the 12 steps of recovery groups and the basic principles of Christianity.  The objective is to establish God’s presence in our lives.

Basic Christianity

A class to develop an understanding of Christianity that will show us where we are on our spiritual journey, improve our personal spiritual growth and strengthen our relationship with God.

The Healing Space

A Christian based class for adults who suffer due to a loss in their life or a traumatic life experience.  It allows people to share their experiences with others who are going through the same feelings.

Prayer & Healing Services

The CUMC Prayer Team hosts two Prayer & Healing Services every month.  These are typically held on the second Sunday of the month at 12:30 in Heritage Hall (older sanctuary) and on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 (same location).  Occasionally, these dates occur during the same week.  In that case, the schedule is adjusted to allow several weeks between services.  Please call the church office at 433-0880 for the latest schedule.

Our mission and purpose is driven by scripture found in the Book of James, Chapter 5, verse's 13 - 16.

13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

In addition to these services, we often meet individuals/families for private anointing services.  These are sometimes at the church and often in their homes.  Please schedule these through Roger Wright at the church office.  In mid-2005, a monthly service of prayer, communion and song was started at Sycamore Glen Retirement Village.  There are plans to expand this ministry in the future.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Support Groups are available for people who have taken classes.  They work to implement the techniques and principles learned in class by applying them to everyday life situations and relationships.

SERENITY MINISTER PROGRAM

This is a program that provides the opportunity for lay members of the congregation to be consecrated as a Serenity Minister.  They are in a ministry of service to those people in the church and the community.  They care for people with a specific need for assistance and support.  The emphasis is on following the examples of Jesus Christ.

HEALING MINISTRY

There is a Healing Team made up of lay members of the congregation  that is available to provide prayers and anointing for people who are experiencing the need for physical, emotional, spiritual or relational healing.  We will meet with people at the church at their home or at the hospital.  This team leads a “Service of Healing and Wholeness” each month at the church.

CONSULTING SERVICE

The Director, Serenity Ministries provides this assistance to people in the congregation and the community.  A consultation can be arranged to provide assessment and referral to professional agencies in the community.  People who have taken classes can use this time to discuss issues and concerns on a personal one-on-one basis.  The Director is available to those who simply need someone to talk to.
