Siding for our homes plays a significant part in who we are and the "aura" if you will, that we wish to convey to folks that see and/or visit our home.

I would like to have a nickle for every foot of vinyl and aluminum siding that has been applied in the last 35 to 40 years. some folks have said to me that they just hate the look of either of these but there is a lot to be said for the vinyl and aluminum industry in that they have produced some very attractive products in the last ten years. Attractive and very long wearing plus when the time comes they can both be painted if you like.

Cement board siding has come into it's own along with composite siding that is embossed with a woodgrain and is hard to distinguish from real wood. Both of these need painting but should not need it as often as some wood species.

Wood siding is still a popular selection but is also quite pricey and requires a lot of upkeep if you wish to have an attractive home.

Hardie Building Products has always come across as an arrogant bunch, to me at least. I have even talked to a representative about this and they couldn't believe that I thought that but some communication with homeowners that have used the siding and had some problems verify my feeling about them. This is a good product but it does need carefull installation and handling.

You can buy soffit material as well as the Hardiplank which is lap siding, Hardipanel which is just that, panels such as 8" verticle groove and stucco. Hardi shingleside that is small panels of shingle like siding.
