That sounds as though I am going to open a retail store or restaurent but this is very true for your log home also. Everyone cannot get that perfect lot on a lake and it may be in beautiful pristine forest but how long will it take you to get there? How many weekends will you be able to enjoy your new Log Home? We like living in ours all the time. A large number of Log Homes are being built in suburbia but please check with potential or actual neighbors before committing to a lot among all those "Conventional" homes. The rules of the sub-division may not allow you to build your style of home. I know that stinks but that is something you must check before buying.
How is the drainage? You must have ample drainage away from your foundation without breaking the bank to prepare the property. You need to have adequate water supply and sufficient area to install a septic system if you do not have city/county water and sewer. Electricity available and close to the lot and availability of Natural Gas although these days we may decide to forget about that possibility. Are there any assessments on the lot? Check it out. Make sure there has been a title check done on the property and if you need to arrange for that yourself. A clean title to the property is a must, no hitches! Easements? You cannot believe what some folks have attached to a deed.
I have always been surprised when I have gone to a lot to "Stake" where a home is to be and the lot isn't large enough for the home the buyers wish to build. Oh yes, that happens when you don't get all Your Ducks in a Row.
