THIS ONE WOULD BE NICE, THINK YOU COULD BUILD IT?

How hard is it being your own contractor/builder? When someone has experience in building something larger than the family dog house more than once they are on the way to having some of the knowledge needed to build your own home. Can it be done? Of course, I came home from the Navy some 52 years ago and stayed at home with my mom and dad for three months to build a new garage and chicken house. There was also the time in high school that I spent working for a building contractor. Four years of learning to do everything you can imagine. I never wanted to do anything but be a carpenter/builder. Many hours were spent dreaming of what I would build someday. We spent most of the years after the Navy building those dreams for other folks but I did manage a few in there for us.

Give some very deep thought to this. I think that the best avenue is to have a builder/framer construct your home in the rough, including the roofing, door and windows, and another contractor to sub-contract concrete work for you.

You may be very qualified to do electrical, plumbing, and heating and have some idea on application of siding and other exterior trim. You can save a bundle by doing this work yourself. Remember to inform your loan officer of this fact, some lending institutions don't like to loan to a "Self Builder".

There is a lot more to this than what I am going to write here but if you have something of this nature in mind and need more help just E-MAILme.
