DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BUILD THAT LOG HOME YOURSELF ?

Do I really want to build that beautiful Log Home myself? When I think about it, I really don't know a lot about building but I think I could learn.

I wonder how many folks ask themselves these questions and many more after going to Log Home Shows and visiting model homes? I am going to try to help you decide this issue but I warn you, I am not going to necessarily paint a picture that everyone is going to like.

In this little scenario I am going to assume that you have been to all the shows you have had time to visit and seen as many model homes as possible and read every bit of information you can find concerning the Log Home Style of Living.

That said, let's get down to business.

You will need a financing package that is suited to building a Log Home but I am covering that elsewhere in the list.

Building this home is going to be the hardest work you have ever done. I always thought that I had worked pretty hard in my many years as a conventional home builder but I swear to you I never worked any harder than my wife and I did when we built our Log Home. There is a lot of lifting to do and that is true even if you have a crane or large forklift at your disposal. Please do not depend on friends and family to help whenever you need them. We are a busy people and every family has many things to do besides helping you build your dream home.

I strongly suggest that you obtain a Package for your home. I think almost all manufacturers of Kit Log Homes will allow you to bring them your own plan to modify in any way that may be deemed necessary but it will save you money if you can select a plan that a company has on file and then do your modifications to that. The manufacturer will cut all the logs to the correct dimensions and number them so you can readily identify them on a layout plan they will give you.

All kits do not include doors and windows. I believe it is a cost saver for you to obtain your doors and windows since you don't need to pay freight on the shipping of same. You will need to provide the company with style and sizes for your windows. Most folks want to do some of the work on their home themselves. I suggest again that you consider doing the inside work and the finishing of your logs etc. The builder can be hired by the company you buy from but that isn't always true. Make sure you know all the particulars before signing on that dotted line. Have the home constructed complete with the roof finished and consider having the builder install the doors and windows for you.

I have other listings on the page to give you information on other aspects of your new home.

You will need to obtain the necessary permits for your home. The foundation must be ready for the builders and the lot must be graded so they can move machinery easily. Provide temporary electric sufficient to power several saws, drills etc.

I'm sure you have noticed that I "kinda" jumped over you doing this home yourself. There are many people that are very capable of building their own log home. If you have had experience building a conventional or log home before you have a "leg up" on this job. If your experience is doing "Honey Do" jobs around the house please let someone build the home for you, everyone will be a lot happier and enjoy your home so much more.

If you need some further help to decide on this venture don't hesitate to E-MAIL me anytime.
