Feng Shui is the science of placement or geomancy. The name is made up of the the two Chinese characters meaning wind and water. Feng Shui placement means positioning objects in harmony with Chi. As one geomancer (Feng Shui expert) said: "If a geomancer can recognize Chi, that is all there is to Feng Shui". To understand Feng Shui one has to understand the meaning of Chi. I maintain that Chi is a very difficult concept to understand and that the best translation is "Life Force". This is an inadequate translation but it would require a long discussion to approach knowing all of the aspects of Chi. If we use "Life Force" as the definition then one can consider that the earth is a living entity with Chi flowing through it just as Chi flows through the human body. Just as in the human body if the flow of Chi is blocked "disease" results in the earth. Bad things result. Therefore, Feng Shui is the art of placing buildings, furniture within the house, etc. in such a way that the flow of Chi in the earth is not disturbed. |
